A NEW Grade 4-12, full-day private school at the Bell Sensplex in west-end Ottawa.
A private Ontario Ministry of Education-accredited sports school offering grades 4-12 with elite academics, specializing in on-ice and off-ice hockey development and sports specific strength and conditioning training for a multitude of different sports.
With a program that nurtures academic growth, athletic improvement, character development, social responsibility, and mental well-being, Ottawa Sports Academy prepares student-athletes to become tomorrow's leaders in sport, health, and life.
Our goal is to offer a globally diverse atmosphere that welcomes both domestic and international students, so they can develop a love for life-long learning, academics, sports, health, and wellness. We want to produce caring, socially responsible, and passionate students with integrity and character.
Students do not have to be elite athletes to benefit from a sports school. The value of athletics in schools is significant and cannot be overlooked. It has a profound impact on individuals, schools, and communities. Learning to take care of your physical well-being and mental health at a young age are just two of the essential skills that we believe is of the utmost importance to youths.
Located in Kanata, Ontario at the Bell Sensplex, the Ottawa Sports Academy is the only multi-sport educational institution in Ottawa and the only hockey school powered by the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs, Fitquest, and Kanata Academy's elite curriculum. OSA is launching this year with the intent to become a leader for athletic performance development, first-class academics, and mental health awareness and training.
We may be a new addition to the Bell Sensplex, but Kanata Academy, our curriculum provider, has been serving the community as an educational leader for more than 24 years, and the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs have been dedicated to youth in Ottawa for more than a decade.
Additionally, Fitquest, with their extensive education and experience in athlete development and exercise reconditioning, supplies strength and conditioning training for all sports. They also utilize a unique blend of science, experience, and coaching that their founder Chris Schwarz, current strength and conditioning coach of the Ottawa Senators, has incorporated into all their programs and protocols.
Our combined history of success speaks for itself. OSA is committed to developing elite athletes who will achieve success at the collegiate and professional levels as well as promoting life-long healthy living tools for our students who may not be competitive athletes, but have a passion for health, fitness, and mental well-being.
Our diverse programs will cater to everyone; athletes of every calibre, students with different learning styles and needs, and students wishing to incorporate a lifelong relationship with healthy living, physical activity, proper nutrition, and mental well-being.
OSA provides an all-inclusive school for athletes and students of all levels. Our location is the Bell Sensplex; 180,000-square feet with four arenas (one international and three NHL-sized). It is the official practice facility of the Ottawa Senators.
In its first year of operation, OSA will offer strength and conditioning packages for all sports as part of the curriculum. Students will have fitness as part of their school day 4 days a week. Hockey players will have the opportunity to have their on-ice development with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs team 4 days a week during the school day.
Our long-term goal is to offer other sports development programs during the day. If you are interested, please ask us about these plans.
During the first year, hockey players can earn two high school credits a year for their on-ice and off-ice development during the day.
Athletes of many other sports can also earn two high school credits a year through their strength and conditioning program at school and after-school training with their respective sports teams. For more information, and to see if your child is eligible for the second credit through collaboration with their sports team, please contact the school.
Other sports eligible include baseball, basketball, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, gymnastics, cheer, downhill skiing, speed skating, figure skating, and track and field. If your sport is not listed, please contact us as we can accommodate most sports.
